What you'll do:
As the newest member of the team, you'll conduct thorough eye examinations for patients, ensuring their visual health and addressing any vision-related concerns. The position can be part-time or full time depending on availability and need when hired, dedicating 16 hours weekly to delivering comprehensive care. However, there may be opportunities for additional hours based on demand. A typical day consists of a steady patient flow of 20 to 23 individuals. You'll have the advantage of working alongside a skilled team of five employees who handle all pretesting and patient workups, allowing you to focus solely on the examination and diagnosis aspects of optometry. This collaborative approach ensures streamlined operations and efficient patient care, creating a supportive environment for you and your patients.

Optical Assistant Job Description
JOB TITLE: Optometric Assistant/Technician
REPORTS TO: Office Manager
Job Description:
Assist the optometrist with obtaining medical history and performing diagnostic testing and treatment-oriented procedures that provide the doctor with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and treatment plan. Works in the lab edging lenses. Assists with general office duties. Must be skilled at computer use and data entry with the ability to communicate candidly with patients. Assists with insurance billing and entering. The job requires most of your day spent on your feet and in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions Include but Are Not Limited To:
- Greet and interview patients and document ocular and medical histories.
- Perform tests including visual acuity, motility, visual fields, topography, OCT scans, and imaging.
- Answer phones, schedule appointments, manage patient database, verify insurance, assist with billing.
- Read prescriptions, prepare and mount lenses, check specs, assist with inventory and dispensing.
- Answer patient questions and provide helpful customer service.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate strong computer/data entry skills.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Prepare exam rooms; track and restock supplies.
- Maintain professional appearance and conduct.
- Adhere to workplace policies and employee handbook.
- Manage typical job stress effectively.
- Document workflows as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Cutting, edging, and polishing lenses.
Additional Skills (Recommended or to be Learned):
- Understanding of ocular and systemic diseases affecting the eye.
- Basic knowledge of eye care and hygienic practices.
- Familiarity with CPT & ICD-10 coding procedures.
- Medical terminology proficiency.
